Why choose us on the Middle Owyhee?

The Middle Owyhee is a classic Momentum spring trip – one that highlights our guiding experience and expedition roots. It is remote, very rarely run, with the kind of challenging logistics that we relish. On many years we are the only company to run a trip. We truly love showing people this place.

This is one of the most incredible and rarely run river trips in the country. A Middle Owyhee trip is for those who are looking for isolated wilderness, spectacularly dramatic landscapes, and plenty of excitement. Set in sheer-walled, awe-inspiring, rhyolite gorges are rapids such as Half Mile, Bombshelter, and Raft Flip. The climax comes at a rapid called Widowmaker, a class-V drop filled with powerful hydraulics and large boulders. Like the Lower Owyhee, the Middle also features hot springs, abundant wildlife, and beautiful side hikes. This river trip is a true wilderness experience, an expedition style trip, and a journey to one of the most remote lands in the lower 48 states. The Middle Owyhee is a great choice for those with prior rafting experience or adventurous beginners in good physical condition.

Please note:
Access to the Middle Owyhee becomes difficult in adverse weather; to allow maintain the highest level of safety, we reserve the right to switch the trip to the Lower section if necessary. Also a portage of Widowmaker Rapid is generally necessary. Because of this we must pack lighter then on most of our trips. All Middle Owyhee trips feature a high Guest to Guide ratio.

  • "Hi Rachel, Thanks for your message! Wow, it's strange to think that less than a month ago we were on that wild, beautiful river. Now I'm back in England, looking for a job and wondering if I can live in a place that has just so many people! What I do know is that I'll be back in Oregon before long. "
  • "Hi all, I can speak for all of us that this was a very successful trip. It was filled was dramatic weather conditions, the drive to the river had thunder and lightning storms with an added touch of hail thrown in. Waking up to about 3-inches of snow outside our motel. Driving to the put in in 5-6 inches through the pass from Jordan Valley to Rome. Starting out our trip with snow flurries and 30 degree blowing snow. The rest of the trip was a mix of fun filled day and evenings bonding with others on the trip. The guides-Mike, Mara, and Adam were all very good at knowledge of the river and taking the time to get to know everyone on the trip. Food was great and lots of it. The side hike we took was one that I will never forget. Took lots of pics. I have been rafting for 24yrs on some of the worlds best and biggest and this trip will rank right up there with the best. I would like to thank you guys for all your hard work and the time that you took to make this a trip that all of us will remember a lifetime. I hope more people will take the time to explore this region. Job well done. Thank you, Rick Jackson(Dr. Tent) "
