Our Fishing Guides

Kait Bailey

“My love for the river started at a young age. Growing up on a farm in Oregon, my brothers and I would walk to the local watering hole on the Molalla River to fish and explore. Throughout my childhood the river always called me. I view fishing as more of a spiritual connection and in order for a steelhead to connect with your fly, one must believe and have confidence.”-Kait.  Kait’s enthusiastic, professional, and patient style of guiding will help you gain the confidence and knowledge needed to fish long after the trip is over. Fishing for her is a lifelong love and commitment. She enjoys passing these energetic teachings along to her guests. Kait ultimately wants to spread the passion for steelhead to as many who are eager to learn.

James Sampsel

James is a passionate angler, guide, and person all together. Deep rooted from a childhood spent in Montana and the Pacific Northwest, his enthusiasm for the river and it’s inhabitants is infectious. You’ll leave a guided trip with him feeling a new spark for the river and deeper understanding of what it means to be a steelheader. His easy to approach and open style allows you to find comforts learning in an unfamiliar setting. Let James help you discover talents you never knew you had. “If you can’t find me on the river you’ll be sure to find me in a studio or studying a beautiful setting, strengthening my love to paint creatively.”-James. James is an accomplished plein air painter and master of light.

Anthony Burgstahler

After a career as a supermodel was tragically cut short by genetics, Anthony resigned himself to the simple life of a river guide. His addiction to guiding began in 1991, but his real love of rivers began when family friends invited him on his first trip when he was eleven. His 20+ years as a professional guide has taken him throughout the western United States as well as Nepal and Chile.  He is one of our original guides and a gifted oarsman with a calm quiet demeanor that has made him a favorite with our guests. Anthony learned about fishing the Rogue from Irv Urie – A fishing guide for 50 years and one of the original fishing guides on the Rogue River.

Irv Urie

Irv Urie has been guiding the Rogue River for over 50 years. He is a wonderful teacher, an amazing story teller, and knows the river and it’s fishing as well as anyone alive. If a book were written about the history of fishing on the Rogue there would have to be a section about Irv. He owned and founded River Trips Unlimited until retiring from company ownership and selling his business to us. We are honored that he has stayed on and continued to guide trips for us.
