The Upper Klamath River
he
Wild and Scenic Upper Klamath River is our signature run. Cutting
a steep wilderness canyon through the Cascades of Southern Oregon, this stretch is one of the finest and most exciting class-IV
whitewater rafting trips in the west. It's fun and it's
addicting! While other rivers are experiencing low, rocky summer
flows, the Upper Klamath still has more than enough water to make
it feel like spring again. Over 30 major class III to IV+ rapids,
from long turbulent drops to short charges through huge standing
waves, pepper this beautiful volcanic high-desert canyon. The
area is rich in Old West history with old cabins, mines, and long-deserted
Indian settlements dotting the run. It's also a major stop on
the Pacific flyway, making sightings of bald eagles, osprey, and
blue herons regular occurrences.
The
run has three different sections beginning with a fun class-III
warm-up. This first stretch makes the Upper Klamath a recommended
rafting trip for first-timers in good health, as they have plenty
of time to learn the finer points of river running.
After historic
Frain Ranch the canyon constricts, the river drops out of sight,
and things completely take off. Get ready for one of the most
action-packed sections of river anywhere (and for a drenching!).
Starting with a long class-IV+ rapid called Caldera, the river
rarely slows for the next seven miles and is packed with exciting
and fun class IV and IV+ drops. Buried in the middle of this stretch
is the half-mile long Hell's Corner rapid. In the last section,
the canyon opens up to mostly splashy class-II rapids and offers
plenty of opportunity to check out the rich bird life.

Rafting Bliss!
Pete and Rachel, YOU ROCK as the river rocked, swirled flowed and gave us the greatest joy and laughter all the way down the Upper Klamath. I decided to go with Momentum having never heard of them so really it was on a whim and truthfully now that I have rafted with Pete I feel there is no where else to go. I felt safe because he was so very present with us and taught us the details of safety and truthfully we needed it because WOW the upper Klamath is a wild one with the greatest rapid runs and whitewater I have yet experienced before. I have rafted in many places but this was truly the best! I know, I know Pete.. Chile is next! Oh and let me not forget the great "Organic" food that Pete and Rachel supplied and prepared for us. Momentum is one of a kind that I highly recommend for your rafting pleasures!
Great Time!
Had to share that we had the best of times last weekend on the Upper Klamath 2-day trip. Our River-Guide, Rachel, was absolutely first rate, as was our Camp-Master, Derek. They both made everyone in the group feel like family, very welcoming and are excellent cooks as well !! We have rafted with other companies before, but have never enjoyed our time rafting nearly as much as with Momentum - the maturity of your guides and the sense of safety we felt being in their charge was worth the travel for us Southern Californians. See y'all next June on the Salmon, and maybe even some day in Chile!
