Why choose us on the Middle Owyhee?

The Middle Owyhee is a classic Momentum spring trip – one that highlights our guiding experience and expedition roots. It is remote, very rarely run, with the kind of challenging logistics that we relish. On many years we are the only company to run a trip. We truly love showing people this place.

Our Middle Owyhee Trip Featured On Oregon Field Guide

oregon-field-guideCheck out the most remote river in the lower 48 on OPB’s popular “Oregon Field Guide”. They joined us to raft the Middle Owyhee and as usual the trip did not disappoint.

This is one of the most incredible and rarely run river trips in the country. A Middle Owyhee trip is for those who are looking for isolated wilderness, spectacularly dramatic landscapes, and plenty of excitement. Set in sheer-walled, awe-inspiring, rhyolite gorges are rapids such as Half Mile, Bombshelter, and Raft Flip. The climax comes at a rapid called Widowmaker, a class-V drop filled with powerful hydraulics and large boulders. Like the Lower Owyhee, the Middle also features hot springs, abundant wildlife, and beautiful side hikes. This river trip is a true wilderness experience, an expedition style trip, and a journey to one of the most remote lands in the lower 48 states. The Middle Owyhee is a great choice for those with prior rafting experience or adventurous beginners in good physical condition.

Please note:
Access to the Middle Owyhee becomes difficult in adverse weather; to allow maintain the highest level of safety, we reserve the right to switch the trip to the Lower section if necessary. Also a portage of Widowmaker Rapid is generally necessary. Because of this we must pack lighter then on most of our trips. All Middle Owyhee trips feature a high Guest to Guide ratio.

  • "Anthony, Glenn, Erik, Adam, Jason (and Julie)- We're headed out on another adventure so I don't have much time for all the great feelings we have about the trip. It was a glorious trip. The scenery was as fantastic as we had anticipated and the weather even cooperated. The tents were easy, the pads cushy, the splash jackets perfect and the food terrific. But the contribution that you guides made to the enjoyment of the trip was immeasurable! Hopefully everyone will stay up for the reunion trip next year and hopefully we will pick a river you can take us on. Thanks!! Leslie "
  • "You are the BEST! We so appreciate your hard work on the river and off and your great sense of humor. We loved your company, the canyons, the river, the meals. What a fabulous trip. Thank you!"
  • "Hi Rachel, Thanks for your message! Wow, it's strange to think that less than a month ago we were on that wild, beautiful river. Now I'm back in England, looking for a job and wondering if I can live in a place that has just so many people! What I do know is that I'll be back in Oregon before long. "
