The Wild and Scenic Lower Klamath River is the second largest river in California and offers over 70 miles of whitewater rafting. Fun splashy rapids, spectacular mountain scenery, beautiful side hikes, warm water, and a staggering amount of wildlife make this a great summer multi-day trip. The mild whitewater also makes this a perfect rafting trip for families with children, first-timers, groups with a wide age range, youth and school groups, and for inflatable kayaking.

The Lower Klamath cuts through the remote Klamath Mountains, land of the Bigfoot and home to black bear, deer, otter, and eagles. It is surrounded by one of the wildest areas in California and we see as much wildlife as we see on any river. As the river flows west, the canyon becomes more and more lush, and numerous side streams and rivers add to the flow. We journey through the most scenic and secluded miles, including a visit to the rain-forest setting of Ukonom Falls, one of the finest side hikes in California, where we can swim in the pools below the falls or just lie on the rocks enjoying the sun.

On multi-day trips, all our food and gear is packed in rafts. We spend the days floating down river, the evenings on large sandy beaches, and the nights under the stars. As with all our overnight trips, the camping is deluxe and the food is excellent. A Lower Klamath trip truly offers you a chance to slow down, unwind, and watch the world float by.

Our standard Lower Klamath trips are 3-days in length. However, a great feature of the Klamath is that we can be very flexible with the itinerary and dates. Because of this it is very popular for private family trips and for school and youth groups.

Lower Klamath Family Rafting Trips

The Lower Klamath is a great trip for families trips with multiple generations and with young children – a perfect introduction to rafting, river travel, and camping. For those wanting more excitement (young adults, dad’s, mom’s?) we bring along inflatable kayaks, making the trip great for a wide range of ages.

Custom Youth and School Groups

The Lower Klamath is one of our most popular trips for youth and school groups. Flexible logistics, a good price point, and a range of river craft good for a mild or more exciting style of trip. Please give us a call or an email and we can build a trip for your group. Trips can range from 1 to 5 days.

  • "Arden and Anthony- Thanks so much for all you did. It was a glorious weekend, and one I'll not soon forget. I hope to put some of the fundamentals you taught us to use on the Rogue in a couple of weeks. Maybe one day someone will find the camera, watch the video, and bear witness to the wrong way to paddle Dragon's Tooth!"
  • "Dear Momentum, I recently completed a 3 day kayak trip on the Lower Klamath. I'd like to give a big shout out to our trip leader, Erik. A consummate professional, hardworking and with tremendous patience to boot. At the end of the trip, an 'outdoor challenged' individual like myself who had to be rescued multiple times was truly convinced that Erik could get me out of any sticky situation on a river run with his tremendous skills. A great asset for Momentum - and a personal thanks from me."
  • "First and foremost: a huge thanks to the entire, professional crew at Momentum for guiding our large group on a trip on the Lower Klamath River. They really took care of everything and all that was needed on our end was to relax and have a great time; to which I appreciate that! Besides their exceptional professionalism, they are wonderful people in their individual rights. And these great qualities show through, time and time again, thus adding to the quality of the trip. Having them all be super approachable, for me, made it that much easier to relax and have a great time. I was new to the group that had already used Momentum in the past, so there was already a great sense of community in place; and the guides/crew made it that much easier to become a part of this community. I appreciate everything everyone did during our week at Momentum and absolutely encourage you to book a trip with them. They will offer you a professional, safe trip with all the fun you want to put into it. They are outstanding, wonderful people, so get out there and get to know them!"
