'Hi Arden, Thank you!! Rafting was Cloe and Tia's favorite part of the trip and they are wondering when we can return to Ashland to go on the Upper Klamath. See you in 2012! Sincerely, Darcy' 'Dear Arden, Pete and Mike, It’s been over a month since we adventured down the Rogue with you all, yet we still drink coffee from our beat up Momentum mugs and talk about our late summer in Oregon. Rudy grew in inches, strength and soul during our trip; somewhere in the midst of the white water, the mouse in our dry bag and the games of bocce ball along the river great things happened for him and for all of us. As Arden well knows, I was so hesitant at the beginning of the trip (hesitant? No - petrified) having had a bad white water encounter before. Arden’s skill, reassurance and compassion, warmth and outrageous sense of humor helped me to let go of that experience and open up to this one. I can’t emphasize enough what this did for me, and as a result, what it did for our family. It meant so much to us that we were able to take this kind of trip together – that Rudy have an experience that challenged and thrilled him and that we all were able to get so far away from our day to day at home. The weekend after we returned, the three of us backpacked 5 miles to a spot overlooking the ocean in Pt. Reyes and spent the night listening to the waves. It was a great way to think back on the time we spent with all of you. Thank you again and again for this memory. We hope to see you all again. Amelia and Gavriella BOTH begin college this week, and I together with my wife (Lisa) embark upon empty-nesthood. The trip on the Upper Klamath was beautiful for us. A big part of what makes an experience a great time is dependent on the employees, from the drivers to the guides. I am sure it is not easy to day after day deal with groups of tourist and to still keep and up-beat attitude and make it a fun experience. All the employees did just that. From the time of pick up to the time we were dropped off, (including the pit stop), it was all very well done. If I owned a rafting company I would hire all of them in a second. I originally tried to get the half day trip, but thankfully it was full. One of the best times I have ever had. I don't usually take the time to post stuff on Yelp etc. but will in this instance. The Rogue is a very special and spectacular river. She is our friend for life, and so is Momentum! You will most likely hear about our mom, Heidi, having a minor accident where she jumped off a rock and sprained her achillies. Please know that there is nothing Momentum could have done differently to avoid or address this situation. Heidi has lived a very full life of adventure, travel and doing all sorts of things she "wasn't supposed to do," and this little accident is just a very small reflection of that approach to life, which we honor and cherish. She seems to be in no pain at all unless she puts pressure on the tendon, and we'll have her in to see the Dr. on Monday where we will hopefully find that its just a sprain and it will heal with time and rest. Thank you, Momentum, for introducing us to the Rogue and rafting!' Perfect family trip 'We are a family with 5 sons, ages 23-9, and we went on the 3 day lodge to lodge trip. The older boys, all very athletic, have never been so happy with a family trip-kayaking, rafting, swimming, and eating! The younger boys were challenged but safe using the kayaks and rafts. They got to see bears, eagles, turtles, etc. Mom and dad now feel 20 years younger. The guides, Erik, Robin, and Simon, were professional, experienced, and fun. We felt very safe in such capable hands. Excellent trip! Only two drawbacks...you might gain weight with all the good food, and you can't stay forever. ' 'Thanks Jeff! We really had a blast. I knew going in that it was likely to be a good trip, and that we would have fun. I didn't realize that it would be one of (if not THE) best trip/vacation/experience we've ever had. Mike and Mara were nothing short of phenomenal. They were friendly, great guides (Mara's safety instructions would later come in handy to me when I became a member of the Illinois Swim Team), good cooks and now - counted amongst our friends. Mara went above and beyond to make sure our anniversary was celebrated (seriously - a private romantic dinner for two at the Klondike Creek camp? how awesome is that?!), Mike kept all of our gear dry and intact and both kept us safe and wholly entertained. Ann actually cried as they drove off after dropping us off. We miss them. They did all the heavy-lifting, food prep, etc. Rapids were thrilling, food was great, pace was just right. A two-day vacation felt like four days. Last year I went with MRE on a three day rafting trip on the Lower Klamath. It was superb and included a fantastic side-trip hike up a stream to some hidden falls. They're a great company! Our house always have different people comming and going, and we would love for you to be one of them too. You should bring Robin along too... 'Dear Pete: I just wanted to send a quick note to thank you for the wonderful experience we had rafting and camping on the Rogue in late July. We had never been on an organized rafting trip, and so weren't sure what to expect. We loved the small size of the group; the scenery was magnificent (especially all the little creeks and waterfalls along the way); and it was especially fun to be able to go through some of the rapids in the inflatable kayaks. Our guides Mara and Anthony were simply spectacular. They worked constantly to make everyone feel safe, comfortable, and relaxed. We learned a tremendous amount about water safety, rafting techniques, reading the river, and natural history from them, and the food they put together was truly outstanding. We have never eaten so well on a camping trip before. We appreciated the special effort they put in to accommodate vegetarians and other special dietary needs. We are already starting to think about our next rafting trip with Momentum--and hopefully with Mara and Anthony! We've sent electronic checks to Momentum in the amount of $125 for Mara and Anthony. 'Hello Pete, Thank you to the whole of Momentum for organizing a splendid river adventure. My son, husband and I returned Sunday from the Rogue Wilderness Lodge trip and it was the highlight of our summer. My son is turning 15 this fall and is athletic and adventurous by nature but had no idea how much fun and challenge he was going to have. He smiled the entire trip, as did Phillip and I. The beauty of the Rogue and the Siskiyou Mountains was a feast for the senses. We saw animal life that we'd hoped to see (bear, mink, fox, otters, orange crayfish, water turtles, bald eagles, osprey) that we just don't have in Palo Alto, California. The white water was terrific for beginners (quickly turned intermedieates) and provided extended excitement and challenge for Phillip and Chris particularly when they learned to surf. Once they slipped into the inflatables (first day) they never returned to the raft. The lodges were the perfect choice for us, and we loved both of them for different reasons. If a person can't love Paradise, then life really is hopeless. The lodge was beautiful and spacious itself but it wasn't just the comfortable accommodations that made it special - the entire property cradled us in it's serene and natural beauty and provided a dreamy ending to a dreamy day. Let me gush about your guides for a moment. Alan led the trip and Mike guided our supply boat. They are two of the most wonderful mentors we could have hoped to lead us on the river. Alan's knowledge is deep and wide; his demeanor matched the serenity of the surroundings which caused us to pay attention to both the wilderness history and the rules he imparted while on his boat. He was not just a guide, he was a wonderful teacher and successfully shared his palpable love of this stretch of the Rogue. I'd even go so far as to say he possessed a little magic about him: twice he got us on hikes up tributaries that ended in these river pools the likes of which you see in National Geographic, and he did so just before other bigger groups arrived. We came upon these pools as if we were the only humans in the region which added a special "just for you" quality to the hikes. Mike could not have been more delightful. He too was profoundly knowledgeable. His ease, grace, humor, and willingness to share his love of rafting captured our imaginations for hours. Chris decided he looked like the movie character, Wolverine, and he was given this moniker for our trip. Your care and attention to our meals was evident and greatly appreciated. Your thoughtful approach to reducing our impact on the wilderness is deeply appreciated and respected. It's better than nice knowing we may have had little negative impact on the river. Your drivers at the take out were courteous and again, engaging. Oh yes, I realize you cannot predict what groups will get along when paired together for three days - sometimes it works and sometimes not. Well, we loved the Seymour family and all eight of us got on beautifully which of course added to the expansive joy experienced by all. From my initial contact with your company throughout our time with you, my/our experience was superlative. 'Dear Pete, First of all I have to say that the trip we went on was the absolute best guided trip I have ever been on! Aside from the stunning beauty of the State of Jefferson (which Erik and Adam so informatively explained was where we were), the organization of the trip and the guides were absolutely perfect. Even though the rivers weren't exactly co-operating with us, we had the most amazing time. Having done some minor guiding (and I mean Class II-III simple canoe trips on the Potomac river, so not close to the stuff you guys do) I can tell you that the way Erik handled the decision to abort the Scott was completely professional. I can say with confidence that if your guides were jerks or not as friendly and cool as the ones we had, that decision could have easily made the group upset. But, we trusted them and I am sure it was the right choice. Even though we all know we could've done it no problems!!! Just kidding... :) I am not an elegant writer, but if I were, I would put into more beautiful words how much I enjoyed this trip. Personally it was exactly what I needed during a difficult time in my life. I came to Oregon with many heavy thoughts on my mind and left with a feeling of peace and understanding. I know that the mountains, rivers and nature's beauty have always worked wonders for me, but I do not think it would've gone so well if I hadn't had such a worry free experience thanks to you all. I truly hope that I will be able to join another trip with you guys on some of the amazing rivers you frequent. And since Eric nearly fell out of the boat twice, it’s probably for the best... I didn’t want to save him a 3rd time. He just head-butted the water one too many times. As you say... you can’t control the river, but you can control the food. I have to tell you again what a great job you guys did with the meals. In Los Angeles, I get plenty of noteworthy meals at the finest five star restaurants. The produce and local fare, and the taste and quality of everything you served was fantastic. You were accommodating to special requests, and had plenty of options (and quantity) for all. I’m very impressed and would highly recommend the trip to anyone. It’s still a shame we couldn’t hit the Cal-Salmon but hopefully the next time cooperates. And after the great time we all had, it’s very likely there will be a next time with you guys. Cheers, Lynne’ from LA ' Incredible Cal Salmon/Scott Trip 'Hi Pete, I just wanted to touch bases with you and thank you for the incredible Cal Salmon/Scott trip this last weekend. The Salmon at 3000 cfs was a very different river from 3 years ago at a much lower flow, and the Scott at 1000 cfs was very technical and fun as hell! Erik did a great job on the oars as always, and Schuler rapid in particular was long, complex, and very challenging. The food was extraordinary, the camping deluxe, and all the other guests fun to be with. And I even got all my final exams all graded (I finished this at the Weed Motel 6 Monday evening)!! Next up for me is Moss Canyon/Rossasco Ravine on the north Yuba in 2 weeks, then a bunch of stuff in Colorado culminating with Gore Canyon (with AVA) in early August. With regard to the Middle Owyhee next year: Easter in 2011 is April 24, so I will have April 16 (Sa) - April 24 (Su) as my spring break. So hopefully you will run a trip on the MO during that time. If you do, I can guarantee you I will go on it barring unforseen circumstances (it would be best if it would not start right ON the 16th or end right ON the 24th, so I could have at least a day to travel each way). Also, I would like to go on the Chilko-Chilcotin-Fraser trip sometime in the future if you could schedule it to end prior to Aug. 12, but that trip is probably more likely to work for me 2 years from now rather than next year. From the cold, snowy first day, to the take-out along-side the "gang from Caldwell", you always exhibited the demeanor of people who understand how to deal with difficulty with a successful outcome for all. You were able to blend knowing just- what- needed -to -happen with a smile and some light-hearted banter. We had complete trust in your skills and abilities which built during the experiences of the trip (including pulling me and my hat from the river). On the lighter side, you were awfully nice, interesting, and funny (especially Mike) and tolerated our middle aged/old age conversations and questions without a hint of boredom. Thanks for humoring us. You made us feel like we were a "special group" and in some way unique (which we really weren't). For Jim and me, you pointed out super camp-sites and engaged us in interesting conversations. Each of you gave us a picture of your background that we found very interesting (since our kids are in their late 20's). You also displayed a depth of knowledge about the geographic area, geology, knew the flora, fauna, history, and environmental concerns, which in our case, was a big part of the trip. It was nice to share the experience with people who were even more impressed by it that we were. We learned a lot from each of you. You were more than safe guides, you were also resources for a lot of information. AND you are great cooks. The meals were better than home. The care the company takes with the environment, from the carbon off-sets, to the local/organic food, and then compost/waste handling topped off our experience. We are pretty conscientious at home, and so were impressed as well as pleased that you can run an operation with glamour AND keep the "footprint" somewhat smaller. We appreciated the good equipment too...especially those thick pads. So, did we like the trip? YES. We have some friends that we think might also enjoy it, and can't wait to show them our pictures. Maybe we'll try Clear Creek, or the Klamath next year. Good luck with your summer, and fall plans, and with the whole enterprise. Best, Cathy ' A Very Rewarding Trip 'Hi Robyn and others at Momentum River Expeditions Beeing back now in Sweden for over a week I look back at my film clips and pictures of the Lower Owyhee Trip May 15-19th 2010 and remember a very rewarding trip The trip itself was more than I could ask for and also included some surprises (a k a wet clothes and gear) The weather was very cooperative, warm and sunny for most of the time I found the scenery to be stunning and at the same time extremely varied Having been on some bigger rivers before I really enjoyed the smaller scale of the Owyhee that made it more intimate....also the rapids were numerous and fun (even more fun riding a Duckie) The food were just too good (I overate once), the camps were well thought out (camp of 4th night beeing my favourite) What also made this trip special was the hikes (they were all great). Some hikes like to the top of the chalk cliffs included a lot of elevation gain and others were relatively flat and easy The hot springs were awesome (and hot!) Finally the guides were all excellent with much knowledge about rafting in general and also good problem solvers (we happened to became stuck on rocks in two rapids). 'Hi all, I can speak for all of us that this was a very successful trip. It was filled was dramatic weather conditions, the drive to the river had thunder and lightning storms with an added touch of hail thrown in. Waking up to about 3-inches of snow outside our motel. Driving to the put in in 5-6 inches through the pass from Jordan Valley to Rome. Starting out our trip with snow flurries and 30 degree blowing snow. The rest of the trip was a mix of fun filled day and evenings bonding with others on the trip. The guides-Mike, Mara, and Adam were all very good at knowledge of the river and taking the time to get to know everyone on the trip. Food was great and lots of it. The side hike we took was one that I will never forget. Took lots of pics. I have been rafting for 24yrs on some of the worlds best and biggest and this trip will rank right up there with the best. I would like to thank you guys for all your hard work and the time that you took to make this a trip that all of us will remember a lifetime.
