The Middle Owyhee
This is one of the most incredible and rarely
run river trips in the country. A Middle Owyhee trip is for those
who are looking for isolated wilderness, spectacularly dramatic
landscapes, and plenty of excitement. Set in sheer-walled, awe-inspiring,
rhyolite gorges are rapids such as Half Mile, Bombshelter, and
Raft Flip. The climax comes at a rapid called Widowmaker, a class-V
drop filled with powerful hydraulics and large boulders. Like
the Lower Owyhee the Middle also features hot springs, abundant
wildlife, and beautiful side hikes. This river trip is a true
wilderness experience, an expeditions style trip, and a journey
to one of the most remote lands in the lower 48 states. The Middle
Owyhee is a great choice for those with prior rafting experience
or adventurous beginners in good physical condition.
Please note: Access to the Middle Owyhee becomes difficult in
adverse weather; to allow maintain the highest level of safety,
we reserve the right to switch the trip to the Lower section if
necessary. Also a portage of Widowmaker Rapid is generally necessary.
Because of this we must pack lighter then on most of our trips.
All Middle Owyhee trips feature a 2 to 1 Guest to Guide ratio.
