The OWYHEE River

Transportation Information - The Owyhee is in the middle of nowhere!

Airport Info:
If flying, the closest airport is Boise. You can rent a car at the airport or call Owyhee River Shuttle
Service at (541) 586-2352. The shuttle from Boise to Jordan Valley or Rome is about $150 one
way for up to 7 people.
Call our office if you need a ride from Jordan Valley to Rome on the
morning of departure.

Driving:
We meet at the Rome Owyhee River access in Rome, Oregon. Rome, Oregon is very small (basically just a café) and is located on Hwy 95 in the southeast corner of the state between Burns Junction and Jordan Valley. The river access is located on the South East side of the bridge crossing the Owyhee River (in view of the Rome Café).

Fuel:
Available in Jordan Valley (30 miles east of Rome) and Burns Junction (20 miles west of Rome)
before 5 p.m. Fuel is usually available at the Rome Café & RV Park.

Dining:
Jordan Valley offers the Basque Inn (best dining), the J.V. Café and a small grocery store. Rome
offers a Café and very small store (they have beer and some sundries).

Nearby Accommodations:
This area of eastern Oregon is extremely rural with long distances between towns, few
inhabitants and limited services. Services such as fuel and groceries in towns like Jordan Valley,
Rome & Burns Junction will often close early so plan your trip accordingly.

Rome:
Rome Café & RV Park: (541) 586-2294. Very basic cabins, campground, RV hookups and airstrip.
BLM Launch Site: Unimproved campsites with pit toilets. No dependable water source.

Jordan Valley, Oregon:
Located just to the east it is about a 30 minute drive to Rome.
Basque Station Motel: (541) 586-2244. Best accommodations – recommended.
Sahara Motel: Recommended if Basque Station is full. (541) 586-2501

Located to the west of Rome this is the closest “major” town and is about a 2-hour drive from Rome (don’t confuse it with Burns Junction). There are many hotel options.

Boise Idaho:
The closest city, and airport. It is about a 2:45 drive to Rome. There are many places to stay in Boise.
