Oregon Rafting & Northern California Whitewater Intro

   Owyhee – OSU trip photos
Afternoon sun on the Owyhee Canyon
Hello, everyone!
Greetings from all of us at Momentum River Expeditions.
Spring is here, the alpine streams are filling with water, and our spring rivers are ready to run! This is a great time of year. The snow pack looks like it will be really good to great, depending on April’s weather, so we are excited for an incredible spring whitewater season.
Eddie just got off an Owyhee trip with a Southern Oregon University group and brought back these pictures of the beautiful Owyhee River Canyon: sunshine, sandy beaches, hot springs, true wilderness – an unforgettable river trip. For those of you who like to make quick vacation plans, we have a five-day Owyhee trip starting on April 18. If there is interest (and plenty of water), we will run
Owyhee- Camping at the needleanother one at the end of April or the first week in May.
Below is info on our spring trips, international trips, the Shakespeare Festival, and other bits of news. Hope all is well, keep in touch, and we hope to see you on the river this spring!

-The California Salmon-
Spring means the Cal Salmon, one of the most spectacular river trips in the country (and Pete's favorite river). The canyon, the wildlife, and the whitewater will blow you away! For those of you who have been on river trips, but never class V, the Cal Salmon is a great way to start.
Our Cal Salmon season should run into mid-June this year, with our two-night, two-day, class IV-V trips going out every weekend starting at the end of April; for those of you who have time midweek, we have discounted trips. Our Memorial Day weekend (May 28-30) trip will include an optional third night and Memorial Day feast/party. Those of you who are looking for something a little milder can still enjoy the canyon because we can run milder class III and IV Mat and Jessiesections of the river for those who are interested. A trip to Redwood NP is a great complement to a Cal Salmon trip. As always, we will arrange custom trips for small groups.
The Cal Salmon season happens only for a few amazing months each year, so give us a call if you are interested.
For more info, visit our Cal Salmon page (or call).

-The Owyhee-
A true wilderness adventure, the Grand Canyon of Oregon. This is a five-day, class-III river journey through a remote desert canyon in southeast Oregon. The canyon is filled with mild, fun rapids, amazing desert scenery, hot springs, and sandy beaches.
We have a five-day trip leaving on April 18 and, if possible, we will run at least one more in early May. The Owyhee had a huge snow pack but because of its low elevation and the hot weather in March, we’re still waiting to see how long the season will last. Custom trips and dates are available for small groups.
For more info, visit our Owyhee page.

-Other Spring Rivers-
The class-V Scott River, sister to the Cal Salmon, is another great run, available as a one- or two-day trip, or as an addition to a California Salmon trip. Rain-fed rivers like the Smith will probably not come up to raftable flows again this spring unless we get a string of rainstorms. But if you’re interested, keep in touch.
Trips on our summer runs such as the Wild and Scenic Upper Klamath and Rogue rivers are also available.

INTERNATIONAL TRIPS:

-Ethiopia’s Omo River-
Fall 2004
Contrary to many popular western beliefs, much of Ethiopia is mountainous and green. The people are wonderfully warm and friendly, the food is spicy and delicious, and the cultural history is fascinating. An Omo Expedition offers a look into this amazing country while traveling through a beautiful canyon filled with African wildlife, traditional tribal groups, and fun rapids. For more information about this trip or the many other possible itineraries available, e-mail Eddie at eddie@momentumriverexpeditions.com.

-Chile’s Futaleufú-
Late Winter, 2005
An ultra-comfortable wilderness base camp, the emerald-green water and rapids of the famous Futaleufú River, all set amid the glaciers, lakes, and vast wilderness of Patagonia. Check out the Futaleufú page at www.momentumriverexpeditions.com/futa.htm and e-mail Pete at pete@momentumriverexpeditions.com.

OTHER NEWS:

-The Shakespeare Festival-
We haven’t had a chance to see one of this year’s plays yet, but we have heard good things. In the next week or so, we’ll send Meg out to see as many plays as she can so you can ask her for reviews.

-Group Trips/Website-
For those of you who have not seen our website in a while (or ever), we have added a section on trip planning and group trip planning. River trips are great for large and small groups, families, bachelor/bachelorette parties, etc., and putting a group together is easy with our help (and a great way to save money).
